Feminine Health
Alright ladies, we knew this one was coming. They sent me to the gynecologist!
I’m not happy to admit that as a 27-year old woman, I had never been. My Dad was a bit anti-doctor, so I’m not sure how he would have felt about all this happening years after his passing.
(My apologies for the disorder, this appointment was 5 days before my big workup in Miami! When I was given that appointment, I was also told to set up my own gyno visit beforehand.)
Anyways, I sorted through the local options; this was not a process I needed to do in-house with Miami Transplant. They will connect via fax or email with the results. I finally picked a name that I felt comfortable with, reading up on her education and length of experience.
And I wasn’t wronged. The moment she walked in the room, I felt her friendliness and relaxed energy as a blanket of safety! We talked about my mom’s history with cancer, as that was my initial concern. She recommended that I start routine breast imaging in my 30’s instead of waiting for 40. I’m okay with that!
Depending on your hospital, they may have different requirements for testing, but I only did a PAP smear (cytology report) and the routine breast exam. Of course if they see something that might be of concern, they will likely require you to do further testing.
Getting this completed on my own was just one more step closer to hearing from the hospital, but it did feel like it took forever and ever to get results after our appointments! We had to learn it’s a bit more of a “big picture” answer, than worrying about one thing at a time.
Usually no news is good news, as they say.
